Meet the Team USA Roster

After years of training, months of waiting and pressure-filled moments during Olympic trials, the time has finally come. Nearly 600 athletes have officially qualified for the U.S. team and are headed to Paris to compete in 32 sports over 16 days at the Olympics from July 26 to Aug. 11, then in 22 sports at the Paralympics from Aug. 28 through Sept. 8. From legendary household names, to fresh-faced contenders, here are some of the U.S. men and women who will be going for gold in Paris.

Historically, the United States is an Olympic boxing powerhouse, having won more medals in the sport than any other nation, and by a significant margin. Since 1904, the Americans have won 117 medals, with Cuba in second place at 78, and Great Britain in third with 62.

HOUSTON, Texas -- Joshua Edwards knew Houston had a history of sending boxers to the Olympics. However, off the top of his head, he couldn’t think of the city’s last heavyweight to fight on the amateurs' biggest stage.

When he earned his spot by winning gold at last year's Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, he quickly turned to Google, which returned a name that stunned him: George Foreman.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland boxer Morelle McCane is chasing gold, and history, at the Paris Olympics starting Friday.

Cleveland's first female Olympian will represent the United States as a welterweight (66 kilograms) and will try to become the first Cleveland gold medal boxer since flyweight Nathan Brooks in Helsinki, Finland, in 1952.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Jajaira Gonzalez was scrolling through social media at her job in a Virginia kickboxing gym about three years ago when she spotted some of her former USA Boxing teammates traveling the world, competing for medals and generally living their best lives.

The Instagram post hit Gonzalez like a stiff jab, snapping her out of a quarter-life slumber.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Omari Jones is not your stereotypical boxer. He doesn’t seem to have the personality and demeanor of a career pugilist.

Boxers can be considered to be bullies; troublemakers always looking to get into fisticuffs like Mike Tyson. He was a street brawler until famous boxing trainer Cus D’Amato helped channel his aggressions.

Jones’ nickname might suggest a street mentality, but the man they call “Banger” never looked for trouble as an Orlando youth.

U.S. boxer Jennifer Lozano started thinking about how far the sport could take her at 9 years old in Laredo, Texas. When she secured her spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics at October’s Pan American Games, she finally realized a dream years in the making.

Jahmal Harvey, 21, is an amateur boxer from Oxon Hill, Prince George's County, who will be looking to bring home a gold medal at the 57 kg (125 pounds) weight class.

This will be Harvey's first Olympics, but he has international experience at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, for which he is the defending gold medalist in 2023.

Houston, Texas -- Roscoe Hill’s boxing career seems tailor-made for greatness, built on generational tradition and a legendary connection.

His father, uncle and older brother all boxed. Hill’s dad, Roscoe Hill III, trained with George Foreman, so Hill grew up boxing at Foreman’s gym in northeast Houston and was baptized — literally — by the boxing legend at his church down the street.
