Types of USA Boxing Memberships#
USA Boxing is divided into five different membership categories: athlete, non-athlete, masters, junior fitness and adult fitness.
An athlete membership can be obtained at the age of eight to 40, while any boxer over 40 must register as a masters boxer. Between the ages of 35-40, you may do both elite and masters.
You must provide proof of age and citizenship via a certified copy of your birth certificate or a photocopy of your passport page that includes your photo and vital statistics. You are required to submit two small, passport-size photos; one of which will be affixed to your passbook.
In addition, all athletes are required to pass a yearly physical exam with corresponding documentation. Once you submit the required documents as instructed on your membership confirmation page, you will receive a white athlete passbook from the LBC registration chair. DO NOT LOSE YOUR BOOK! You must have this book with you to box at an event.
Our non-athlete membership is divided into three different categories: Coach, Official, Physician.
Additional information regarding a Coach membership can be found here.
Additional information regarding an Official membership can be found here.
Additional information regarding a Physician membership can be found here.
Coaching Education resources can be found here.
Coaches and officials must obtain a copy of their registration confirmation page, two small, passport-size photos, clear their background screening and complete their Safesport certification to receive to their passbook. Once this is done, documents are sent to the LBC registration chair for approval. Once approved, the LBC registration chair will mail the passbook to the address on file with USA Boxing. As a reference, these instructions are outlined on your registration confirmation page. Coaches receive red passbooks, while officials receive blue passbooks. DO NOT LOSE YOUR BOOK, as you will need your book to work an event.

Members can register as early as 8 years of age. USA Boxing does not have a maximum age limit. We currently have members well into their 70s who still compete.
Prices depend on location, membership type, and age (if you plan to box). Athlete memberships range from $59.00 to $100.00 while coach/official memberships range from $110.00 to $150.00. Memberships are good for that calendar year, and are not prorated if one were to register after the beginning of the year.
Memberships are valid for one calendar year and expire on December 31, of that year, regardless of when they join. For example, if someone registers August 1st, their membership will expire December 31 of that year. Membership fees are not prorated. The only exception applies during early registration. Starting November 1st each year, people who register during this time will not need to renew their membership until December 31st of the following year.
Passbooks are small passport sized books, issued by one’s local representative, which keeps record one’s membership history with USA Boxing (i.e. a boxer’s record, participation history, events attended, etc.). More importantly, all members MUST have a passbook to be allowed to participate at any USA Boxing sanctioned competition.
LBC stands for Local Boxing Committee. USA Boxing is made up of 57 different LBCs nationally. While many LBCs represent entire states, some states have more than one. Two of the LBCs represent collegiate boxers and boxing clubs and are not bound geographically.
Each Local Boxing Committee is managed by board of directors, responsible for follow and enforcing USA Boxing’s bylaws, while helping administrate boxing locally. Some of their responsibilities include approving new clubs that join the LBC, approving local events, and issuing passbooks to name a few. Members are assigned to their LBC by their physical address.
Upon signing up, all non-athlete members are required to be SafeSport certified. SafeSport is an online program developed by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee and the U.S. Center for Safe Sport. The objective of the course is to emphasize the importance of athlete safety. It consists of a series of online readings and videos, with a quiz at the end of each module. Once all modules are complete, you’ll required to take a final exam going over the entire course. If you do not pass it the first time, you may take it again. Upon passing the test, the US Center for Safe Sport will update your USA Boxing member profile, indicating you have completed the course.
To access USA Boxing SafeSport resources, please click HERE
For the safety of our members, we require all non-athlete members (coaches, officials, and physicians) to complete a background screening every year. Background screenings are $35.00 and only paid by members every other year. USA Boxing pays for these screenings on the off year, beginning year two. Background screenings are paid at the time of registration/renewal with USA Boxing and are sent to the screening immediately upon registration/renewal. Screenings can take up to 10 business days to complete, on average. Members looking to have background screenings completed ahead of events are expected to plan accordingly.
Additionally, any flagged or disqualifying offenses can be viewed on pg. 10 of the USA Boxing SafeSport Policy Handbook, located HERE.
Physicians are not required to pay for their membership with USA Boxing. To avoid being charged, we ask all prospective physicians to 719-866-2323. We will gladly register one over the phone. Physicians are required to complete Safesport and undergo a background screening. Due to their licensure, background screenings are not required to clear. Once Safesport is complete, physicians are cleared to work an event. Below is a link to our physician’s page, which includes great resources on what to expect.
Yes. Members must pay for an athlete membership AND a non-athlete membership in the same year. To do that, one would log in to their USA Boxing account online. Select the “Renew Membership” link from the home page. Follow the prompts. You’ll be asked to choose a membership type (your current membership type should not appear on the screen). Members who sign up for a second membership will receive 50% off their membership dues (this does not apply toward background screening fees).
