South Texas
President#
I am currently the President of South Texas. I am a member of USA Boxing with 15 years of experience. I was Chief of Officials for 7 Years previously . My Education is I have some college experience back in 1976 and 1977. Before boxing, I Served as President Of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for 2 terms (4 Years). I have worked over 25 National tournaments as an R&J, Supervisor, Ring Captain, Admin positions, and Ring crews. I have also worked internationally in Dubai, Puerto Rico, Equador, and international events in the USA. I am retired so I can give the proper time to this LBC that it needs.
As a young boy, I would watch the sport of boxing and always wanted to get involved with the sport and give back to the boxing community. I was provided an opportunity as an Official and 8 years later I am here asking to be President of one of the largest LBC's in the country. When I first became an Official, I traveled to every town as possible and absorbed as much information as possible from as many people as possible.
My first big payoff was being invited to my first National tournament in 2019 in Madison, WI. I became a Level 3 official and became a clinician so that I can come home from National tournaments and teach from my experiences.
At the 2021 National Championships in Shreveport, I earned the Most Outstanding Judge award at the completion of the tournament with a final score of 96%. What made the award more memorable was I received it with my mentor in attendance.
I worked my way up to Vice President and never stopped serving the South Texas boxing community. In 2022 USA Boxing rolled out mini clinics designed specifically for boxers and coaches, and I did not hesitate to roll out this material and go to gyms all over South Texas and share it with parents, coaches, and boxers.
As a certified clinician, I conduct 2-3 Officials clinics a year for new officials and various referee, or judges training sessions as needed. My target when I became a clinician was to increase our roster of Officials. Since 2022, we have welcomed 5-7 new active Officials in the Austin area and 8-10 new officials in the San Antonio and surrounding areas.
I also take pride in keeping engaged with all coaches, parents, and boxers. It is common for me to swing by gyms and hear their concerns or observe sparring sessions and help the boxers recognize what is and isn't a foul. At times I will have a group of Officials with me and we will work sparrings to get my Officials some training rounds as well.
When I first became Vice President I promised myself I would be 100% available and 100% accessible to all coaches, parents, and boxers. I answer every phone call, text message, or email. If I cannot, I reply as promptly as possible. Whenever I am at events or gyms, I speak to everyone and listen to their concerns or recommendations individually. I make it a point to visit with coaches individually at events or the gym to see if we can do something better for them as a Board of Directors.
Thank you for your consideration as President of the South Texas LBC. I plan on holding myself and my Board of Directors accountable to provide the best service to our boxers. Together we are aligned in doing everything possible to make champions in and out of the ring.
Vice President#
I have been a member of USA boxing for over 23 years as a boxer and coach. I was the founder of my own non-profit, AW Alliance, where we held life skill camps intergrated with youth sport camps. I am the coach of a National Champion and have traveled with multiple boxers to National competitions. I was head coach of the San Antonio Golden Gloves last year, which takes the team to FT. WORTH. I love amateur boxing for purity of competition, helping young people grow and mature in and out the ring. I want to help the Board of Directors to better the LBC for boxers, coaches and officials. Help with opening communication and championing integrity.
In 2013 I was introduced to the STABA boxing community. I embarked on this journey as a parent and a wife to a boxing coach. Not knowing how this would impact my life and form a love for a sport that would shape me into the person I am today.
Spending countless hours at club shows and in a boxing gym. I learned to pay attention to the fundamentals of boxing, making that passion grow for the love of boxing. Seeing that officials were greatly needed in the Corpus Christi area; I signed up and at the time VP Rafael Davila took me under his wing to teach me a great deal of needed knowledge to become an official.
In 2018 elections were taking place and it was suggested that I run for secretary, I sent in an application and the 2018 Board of Governors voted me in. I can say that serving on the board for the last four years has really taught me a lot about myself and the STABA boxing community.
I have learned a lot of names to the faces I have seen at events over the years. I have made a great rapport with the boxing coaches, parents, and boxers within STABA. I have even made friends with people within this community. I truly feel that now considered will be a lifetime friends.
When the phone rings and assistance is needed, I make myself readily available.
I have served as a JO Chairwoman for 2022 and 2023. I have served on the Games of Texas admin team for 2021 and 2022 and the admin team for the STABA LBC Championships for 2022 and plan to serve for 2023. Which have turned out to be very successful tournaments for STABA.
Thank you for the opportunity and consideration of running for your STABA 2024-2028 Vice President. I plan on being the best board member I can be for the best interest of STABA LBC #43.

Secretary#
Winner by Acclamation (Ran unopposed)
I was closely introduced to boxing in 2017 and started seeing the amateur boxers compete and grow in the sport. I fell in love with watching these young athletes and coaches have so much passion and dedication in this amazing sport. In 2019 I decided to start volunteering my time as an official. This was absolutely one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Over the years I have dedicated many hours at club shows and in boxing gyms. I am part of the National Admin team, and an Official in Charge for STABA. I also work closely with the National office on the verification process for athletes. I have traveled and continue to travel to other LBC's to help officiate and see how their LBC's operate as well for extra knowledge and experience. I am a currently contracted with TDLR Combative Sports to even further my knowledge in the sport that I have grown to love so much.
If I am voted in as Secretary for our LBC my ultimate goal would be to be a part of a board who expresses transparency, equality, and communication within our LBC to include boxers, coaches, and officials in decision making processes.
Thank you for your time and dedication to the sport and to STABA, it does not go unrecognized. I would greatly appreciate your vote as Secretary for the upcoming elections.
Treasurer#
I would love to serve as the treasurer of our LBC. I think the lack of transparency needs to change. I think as the treasurer my goal is to focus on the Athletes and Coaches. I would to support them and our goal as a whole to prepare and send athletes to the Olympics!
I believe the LBC members deserve to have clear and up-to-date knowledge of the financial status and operations.
I want to bring and keep All the Board of Governors (Coaches, Club Owner/Representative) in the know about the LBC Finances--Their Money.
As well, give them more direct say on how and when their money gets spent and the direction and priorities of the LBC.
I would like the LBC to not repeat poor practices nor try to recreate the wheel--learning from other's experiences AND reinvigorate alternate funding streams—bringing more money into the LBC.
I have the ability to make all the above happen; with my many years preforming on non-profit Executive Boards (since ‘94), specifically in with the treasure's position, along with my Master’s Degree in Business Administration and 30+ years in amateur boxing within different LBCs and Regions boxing, coaching, and officiating.
Strict Financial Compliance
As a dedicated member of the local boxing community with a strong background in financial management and a commitment to transparency, I believe I am well-suited for this important role.
I would like to highlight the following qualifications and strengths that make me an ideal candidate:
Extensive Regulatory Experience: Throughout my career, I've amassed substantial experience in regulatory compliance and financial oversight. My track record speaks to my ability to ensure that financial operations consistently adhere to all relevant laws and regulations. This expertise is especially critical for the Treasurer's role.
Financial Expertise: My background in finance equips me with the essential skills to effectively manage the committee's finances. I bring extensive experience in budget planning, financial reporting, and fiscal responsibility to the table. This ensures that our financial resources are optimally allocated to support our initiatives.
Transparency and Accountability: I hold a steadfast commitment to transparency and accountability. I firmly believe that open and honest financial reporting is the cornerstone of building trust within our committee and the broader community. I am dedicated to delivering clear, accessible, and understandable financial information to all members, especially given our nonprofit's reporting obligations to both the United States authorities and the esteemed Board of Governors.
Attention to Detail: As Treasurer, I recognize the paramount importance of attention to detail. My meticulous approach to financial record-keeping and my unwavering commitment to accuracy are foundational for maintaining the integrity of our financial transactions.
Collaborative Spirit: Understanding the significance of collaboration within a committee, I am fully committed to working closely with fellow committee members. This teamwork ensures that our financial strategies are perfectly aligned with our overarching goals and objectives.

Team Player: I understand the importance of collaboration within a committee. I am committed to working closely with fellow committee members to align our financial strategies with our overall goals and objectives.
In summary, my qualifications, extensive regulatory expertise, financial proficiency, and unwavering dedication to transparency position me as an exceptional candidate for the Treasurer position on the South Texas Local Boxing Committee. I am eager to seize this opportunity to contribute to the financial stability and success of our committee, all while upholding the highest standards of transparency and accountability.
Thank you for considering my application.
Chief of Officials#
I have been involved with USA Boxing since 2009 as a coach and sanction holder. Throughout the years, it was only natural for me to progress as an official. My first officials certification was acquired in 2017. It has brought me a wealth of knowledge and experience pertaining to USA Boxing. My intent has always been to educate as many coaches and athletes about the sport and its rules. I have succeeded in recruiting a group of individuals to become officials in my home town of Laredo Texas. I hope to continue to do the same, increasing the number to help facilitate our LBC with its bank of officials. My past experience participating on boards include:
* Board member of the Laredo Firefighters Association. I have served in the capacity of Trustee, Secretary and Vice- President. My tenure as a board member lasted 10 years. Participating in the LFFA board, I was able to get certified with a Civil Service Certification which allowed to represent firefighters throughout the state of Texas when grievances were applied. I also participated as co-lead negotiator for 3 collective bargaining contracts.
*Board member of the Laredo Fire Department Federal Credit Union. I served in the LFFCU for approximately 5 years, serving in the capacity of Vice- President throughout most of my tenure. My duties included bank reconciliations, member services and overall management of BOD duties
*Board member of Alexander High School Band Parents Association. I served as President for the association for 3 years. Surprisingly, my participation in this BOD helped me learn and grow as a representative. The level of scrutiny and involvement was off the charts having to represent approximately 600 parents.
*Current board member of South Texas Amateur Boxing Association. I currently serve as Chief Of Officials having been appointed by the BOD after the vacated office. I have been able to attain a certification as OIC with the hopes allocating my certification as a clinician very soon.
In closing, I hope to continue to serve the LBC in the capacity of COO. My past experience has thought my that knowledge and education is a never ending process, which I hope to convey to the very same officials in which I would represent.
My name is Rogelio Garza and I have been an active member of USA Boxing for almost eight years. From the beginning my goals were to learn every position and aspect of being a successful participant within USA Boxing. After the many years that I have been in our organization I can honestly say that I have learned, seen, and done a lot to assist me in accomplishing the original goals that I had set for myself when I began. I started my USA Boxing career as a timekeeper, a ring side judge, and eventually became a referee. To this day, I am always learning after every match that I participate in, and I make it a point to never stop learning. Since I am an educator and coach in a public school system, as well as having a master's degree in education, that qualifies me to be an administrator in the future, I am a believer that we must never stop learning and always keep growing. Thus, being in education I am an advocate for the young boxers to learn the sport of boxing as it pertains to their knowledge of being an amateur boxer.
Conclusively, because of this acquired experience I feel that I can now contribute to the success and growth of USA Boxing as the Chief of Officials in our LBC. Assisting my fellow official's personal growth and knowledge acquisition would be my new goal and responsibility. Helping them reach their full potential as members of our LBC can only be nothing less than a positive for the continued success of USA Boxing.
Athlete Representative #
Winner by Acclamation (Ran unopposed)
In short, I would like to serve on the board to be part a voice for athletes- especially the women and girls involved in boxing and USA Boxing as an organization. I have been boxing for 4 years out of Austin Women's Boxing Club and have been competing for two years with Coach Julia. In my time participating in boxing competitions it has motivated me to be a voice for my LBC and other women in the sport. In addition to participating in the AWBC Competition team, I also volunteer on the Marketing team for Headstrong Girls Boxing non-profit. This is a non-profit started by Coach Julia that offers free boxing training to girls 12-18. I also volunteer as an assistant instructor when a coach can not make the class. I love to work with the girls and be involved in such a great organization. In my professional career, I am a project manager and believe my organization, communication skills, time management would translate well into this role.
Been in and around boxing for over a decade, south Texas is where I was born and raised. I am a fighter and coach, i have great communications skills to bring more awareness to the sport and manage a boxing gym currently keeping my ear close to the athletes and coaches in the sport currently.
I am interested in being an athlete representative because I have always loved being a voice for others while setting a great example and more. Throughout high school and college, whether it was a basketball team, cheer team, class president, in the boxing gym or the individual to be in charge, I would step up to these roles before my superiors could assign them to me. I always take on these roles proudly and try to give my best to always be a good individual to look up to and someone who can speak on behalf of others in a polite yet strong manner. Handling multiple duties at once and carrying the pressure that comes along with it, is the type of environment I thrive in and genuinely love to be in. Representing others and being a leader is something I take much pride in and will always take pride in with everything I do. I believe I am a suitable candidate for this position as I being a leader is something that has always been instilled in me and being able to communicate, cooperate and connect with others comes very naturally.
