2020 USA Boxing National Championships Update – Feb. 16

by USA Boxing

With the 2020 USA Boxing National Championships, scheduled for March 25-April 3 in Shreveport, La. just over a month away, USA Boxing wants to provide an update on the event for those planning to attend.

Below are important recommendations and requirements that all registered participants must adhere to. These guidelines were put into place to ensure a safe and successful event.

COVID-19 Testing Requirements/Recommendations

USA Boxing HIGHLY recommends all participants (boxers, coaches and officials) to take a COVID-19 PCR test on March 1 to help determine any separation within team bubbles and/or quarantine and recovery prior to the start of the event. USA Boxing’s admin and national office staff attending the event will also be taking a COVID-19 test on March 1.

At check-in all coaches, officials, youth and elite boxers will be required to present a NEGATIVE MOLECULAR PCR COVID-19 TEST that was conducted within 72 hours before travelling to the event. It is highly recommended that all other age divisions conduct the same testing before travelling to Shreveport.

If someone receives a positive test for Covid-19 between January 1 and March 15, 2021, this person is outside of the quarantine period, but is within the 90-day window of immunity.  This participant is exempt from required testing prior to travel; however, participant is required to show proof of the positive test within the dates specified above.

Participants that have received COVID-19 vaccination(s) are still required to show proof of a negative PCR test within 72 hours of travel to the event.

Participants who fail to produce a negative PCR test or provide proof of positive test within Jan. 1 – March 15, 2021, will be required to get a PCR and an antigen COVID-19 test locally, and cover any of the testing expenses.

Further details of testing protocols during the competition will be announced before the event.

Registration Reminder

Registration for boxers and coaches will close on March 15. Due to COVID-19 health protocols, there will be no walk-up registration for coaches, and they will need to have all certifications (Background, Coaching and SafeSport) completed upon arrival to Shreveport in order to receive a credential. As a reminder, background screenings can take anywhere between 7-10 business days to be completed.

Coaches may complete their USA Boxing membership online here. Coaches registration status can be found here.

Event Spectators

Due to COVID-19 health protocols, no spectators will be allowed entry into the venue. This decision is based upon current COVID-19 data and in consultation with USA Boxing Physician’s Committee, local Health Department and in the best interest for the health and safety of our boxers, coaches and officials. USA Boxing will provide a free live stream, which will show all bouts at the tournament. The live stream can be accessed on the event page here.
