I am deeply committed to the growth and success of the sport of boxing, particularly within our community.
My involvement in boxing spans over two decades, beginning as a boxer myself in 1999. Over the years, I've gained extensive experience and insight through my participation as an athlete, official, coach, and leader in the sport. As the President of USA Boxing Illinois Association since January 2020, I've overseen remarkable progress. The increased registration of clubs, Illinois' prominence as a top sanctionholding state, and the emphasis on equal treatment for all stand as testament to my dedication to enhancing our boxing community.
My background includes a strong educational foundation that aligns with the responsibilities of this position. My hands-on experience in various capacities, including officiating and coaching, has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of the nuances and needs of the sport.
In addition to my technical expertise, my leadership qualities and ability to foster collaboration have proven instrumental in driving positive changes within our boxing community. My commitment to transparency, fairness, and inclusivity has redefined the way our local committee operates, promoting the sport's integrity.
In sum, my extensive boxing background, coupled with my leadership skills and dedication to inclusivity, uniquely qualify me for this board position. I am resolute in my pursuit to contribute to the growth and advancement of boxing in our community.

After honorably serving in the United States Air Force for just over 20 years (retired in August 2019), I found a new home in the Boxing Community (in March 2020). I have always been passionate about Health and Wellness and helping others; I had an additional duty as a Physical Training Leader (PTL) during my time serving in the Air Force.
Once I returned home to Chicago, I joined a UFC gym and immediately fell in love with boxing for fitness. During my time at the gym, I met a few fighters and wanted to learn more about the actual sport of Boxing (fighting). My fitness boxing quickly shifted to fight training. I pursued and obtained certifications in Personal Training, Strength and Conditioning, and Nutrition with International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) in 2021. I have also earned 5 university degrees over the years- a Master of Science, a Bachelor of Science, and 3 Associate of Science Degrees.
Furthermore, I became certified as a Coach with USA Boxing in February 2022. I attended and completed the Bronze Clinic in July 2022. I currently volunteer my time 4-5 days a week as a coach with Shaun Tallon at Tallon's Boxing Academy. Since becoming a certified Boxing Coach, I have been a Coach/Corner for 20+ fights. I also coach boxing classes at local park districts and teach fitness classes to Seniors.
I have witnessed firsthand what boxing provides and offers its fighters and community members. My LBC is a safe space where fighters and coaches alike form unique bonds you cannot or will not find anywhere else. We bolster trust, respect, and hard work; we experience trials and tribulations as a team.
Nothing gives me more joy than helping others; serving on the board of my local LBC would not only deepen and further enhance my connection with my fighters and local community, but it would yield more opportunities to learn and flourish as a Coach (and person) overall.

Chief of Officials#

Dear Fellow USA Boxing Members:
My name is Caroline Burgess and I am running for the role of Chief of Officials for the Illinois LBC. Since 2018, I've had the privilege of being a member of USA Boxing, currently serving as a Judge and an Official in Charge. As of September 1st, I have judged 1,058 amateur bouts and have supervised, or have been an Official in Charge, for 390 amateur bouts. I have participated in local club shows, advancing tournaments and national competition.
I have 21 years of faithful service with the Chicago Police Department, where I am currently assigned as a Detective serving the citizens of Little Village, Lawndale, East Garfield Park and Austin. I have a Master’s Degree from DePaul. This fall, I will graduate from John Marshall Law School, and will take the bar exam early next year.
Officials, my goals are to keep you informed, educated and supported. It is important to me to have us all continue to work together to continue the success of the LBC. I do not plan on making any changes to the scheduling of officials. I would continue the transparent scheduling process we have in place now (Band app).
Coaches, I have enjoyed getting to know many of you these past few years. Without you, we would not have successful boxing in Illinois- so successful that last year we had the most shows in the country. I admire the support you give to Illinois youth, and I fully recognize that for many young people, the boxing gym is an important avenue for their growth and safety. My goals for you and your boxers are to ensure fair play and follow the rules set forth by USA Boxing to the best of my ability.
In closing, I want to express my gratitude for considering my candidacy. I'm committed to maintaining the integrity and excellence of boxing within our region. Let's continue working together to achieve success. Thank you for your consideration.
Respectfully,
Caroline Burgess
