U.S. OLYMPIC & PARALYMPIC FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES $800,000 GRANT FROM DANIELS FUND FOR USA BOXING

by USA Boxing

The United States Olympic & Paralympic Foundation, in partnership with the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee, today announced that the Daniels Fund has committed $800,000 in grant funding to the foundation to support USA Boxing on their journey to the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

The two-year grant will fund performance enhancement for USA Boxing’s elite teams, coaching education programming, and greater access to camps and competitions for USA Boxing’s youth and junior-level athletes.

“We are so grateful to the Daniels Fund for their outstanding commitment to Team USA and to USA Boxing’s athletes and coaches,” said USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland. “Their support will be critical in the lead-up to Paris 2024 as U.S. boxers train to pursue their Olympic dreams.”

The Daniels Fund was established in 2000 by cable television pioneer Bill Daniels to make life better for people in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming through its grants and scholarship programs. The Denver-based nonprofit has contributed over $2.65 million in funding to the USOPF since 2004.

“As a Golden Gloves boxing champion, Bill Daniels believed in the power of sports to build character, teamwork, and perseverance,” said Hanna Skandera, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund. “We are thrilled to support these programs that will propel the USA Boxing team to the next level as they prepare for the Olympic Games, develop best-in-class coaches, and also give young people the opportunity to reach higher and experience the benefits of competing in elite-level sports.”

The Daniels Fund has previously supported coaching education initiatives in partnership with the foundation. Continuing the Daniels Fund’s past efforts in this area, this grant will cover the cost of USA Boxing’s coaching education staff, online certification programs and additional coaching education programs, impacting more than 50,000 USA Boxing members across the country.

In the area of performance enhancement, the grant will cover the cost of critical resources like nutrition, strength and conditioning, mental health support and more, which will allow Team USA’s elite boxers to train and prepare for Paris 2024 from wherever they are in the United States.

Finally, funding for youth and junior camps and competitions will impact up to 125 youth and junior boxers by providing critical sparring experience that will help them advance to the next level.

“This gift will be transformative for our athletes and Olympic-style amateur boxing programs over the next two years,” said Mike McAtee, executive director of USA Boxing. “The Daniels Fund is a valued partner, and we appreciate their dedication to improving the lives of Team USA athletes and enhancing U.S. boxers’ chances to succeed in Paris.”
