Dear USAB member,

In this upcoming USAB governance change, USAB is adding two athlete members to the Board of Director’s of USA Boxing.  The new athlete members to the Board of Director’s will be voted in by the USAB Athlete Advisory Council at the upcoming Annual AAC meeting July 11th, 2010.  The USAB AAC consists of 14 regional representatives (one from each geographic region), three athlete Board of Director members and one USOC AAC member.

The following two positions are up for election:

  • Vice Chair of the AAC /Athlete BOD member/member of AAC Leadership member-4 year term to serve as Vice Chair of the USAB AAC and athlete member to the Board of Directors.

  • USAB Foundation Representative/Athlete BOD member/member of AAC Leadership-2 year term to serve as athlete representative to the USAB Foundation and athlete member to the Board of Directors and as AAC Leadership.

The Athlete members of the Board of Director’s of USAB are the direct representative voice of all athletes within the USAB on all issues pertaining to athletes in our sport. These positions are very important and will require a serious time commitment.  Typically there are 4-6 Board of Director meetings a year, 8-12 Athlete Advisory Council meetings a year (all but one are conference calls) and 2 USAB Foundation meetings a year.  Travel and lodging will be provided for all required meetings.  Candidates must be active athlete or non-athlete members of USA Boxing and have been engaged in amateur competition within the last 10 years and meet all the requirements stated on the nomination form

We are looking for athletes that have the ability to work well within the USAB and USOC organizations, to think critically about issues, to communicate and advocate effectively for athletes and to dedicate the necessary time and work to effectively represent the USAB athlete population.

All candidates will be given between 3-5 minutes to present to the membership of the Athlete Advisory Council their qualifications, ideas and vision at the Annual AAC meeting from 11am-noon mountain time in Colorado Springs on Sunday, July 11.  This will be followed by a question and answer period moderated by the AAC Chair.   Candidates can either appear in person or by conference call to this meeting.  Candidates will be responsible for any travel costs involved.  After each candidate has had an opportunity to present, the AAC will hold the vote by paper ballot, and the winners will take office immediately.
