Lenroy Thompson Records Two Victories at the Atlantic Cup and USA vs. England Duel

Team USA endured a challenging international outing in England at the 2009 Atlantic Cup and USA vs. England Duel over the weekend. Super heavyweight Lenroy Thompson (Lenexa, Kansas was the sole U.S. boxer to record victories in both events in England. Welterweight Errol Spence (Desoto, Texas) and female lightweight Patricia Manuel (Commerce, Calif.) both earned victories in the second event in London.
The Atlantic Cup, held November 13 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, was the opening event of the two-competition British swing, and the home squad recorded victories in seven of the eight bouts with Thompson winning the only bout for the United States in the final bout of the night.The visiting team tripled their victories in the second competition, a USA vs. England Duel held at York Hall in Bethnal Green with Spence and Manuel joining Thompson in earning victories.
The U.S. boxers competing in England were flyweight Michael Ruiz, Jr. (Fresno, Calif.), bantamweight John Franklin (Fort Carson, Colo.), featherweight Ricky Edwards (Prospect Park, N.J.), lightweight Eric DeLeon (Lincoln Park, Mich.), Spence, middleweight Luis Arias (Milwaukee, Wis.), heavyweight Lamar Fenner (Chicago, Ill.) and Thompson. Female boxers Manuel and Brittany Inkrote (Red Lion, Pa.) represented the United States at the lightweight and welterweight divisions respectively.
The USA vs. England Duel is an annual event between the two squads consistently held in November in England.
