USA Boxing Events

The USA vs. Great Britain Duel will move to St. Louis, Mo., and the Chaifetz Arena on October 24 as top squads from both countries battle in international duel action. The Great Britain team will compete in all three duels in the United States with the St. Louis event being the second of three competitions. 

The squad representing the United States in Des Moines boasts a unique collaboration of reigning national champions, and international newcomers. 2009 USA Boxing National Championships flyweight silver medalist Adan Ortiz (Sterling, Ill.); local flyweight Stephon Young (St. Louis, Mo); 2009 USA Boxing National Championships Featherweight silver medalist Jerren Cochran (Channelview, Texas); 2009 Lightweight National Champion Duran Caferro (Helena, Mont.); 2009 World Championships light welterweight silver medalist Frankie Gomez (Los Angeles, Calif.); 2009 USA Boxing National Championships welterweight silver medalist Eduardo Alicea (Cleveland, Ohio); 2009 Middleweight National Champion Terrell Gausha (Cleveland, Ohio); 2009 Heavyweight National Champion Jordan Shimmell (Hudsonville, Mich.); and heavyweight Stacy Harrington (South Haven, Mich.) will all compete in the event. The bantamweight and super heavyweight representatives for the United States team will be named shortly. 

The coaches leading the U.S. team into action will be Winston "Buddy" Shaw (Florissant, Mo.), Kenny Loehr (St. Louis, Mo.) and Kevin Greene (Enterprise, Ala.) with Eppie Quintana (Albuquerque, N.M.) serving as the Team Manager for the event. Brent Venegas (San Rafael, Calif.) and Enrique Orci (Sahuarita, Ariz.) will work as the AIBA officials and Clement Smalls (Marinette, Wis.) will join the delegation as the computer technician with Dr. Edward Friedlander (Kansas City, Mo.) serving as the team physician. 

The Great Britain squad competing in Des Moines will be: flyweights Khalid Yafai and Daniel Chapman, bantamweight Andrew Selby, featherweight Ian Weaver, lightweight Daniel Phillips, light welterweight Scott Cardle, welterweight Craig Dixon, middleweight Karl Kirkham, heavyweights Wadi Camacho and Stephen Simmons, and super heavyweight Amin Isa. Coaches James Davison, David Alloway, and Nigel Davies will lead their squad in St. Louis.

The United States participates in international duel events throughout the year both in the United States and abroad in an effort to provide consistent international competition for the athletes. The St. Louis event will be the second of three duels against Great Britain in the United States with competitions taking place in Norfolk, Va., prior to the St. Louis event and Des Moines, Iowa following the October 24 duel.    

The United States vs. Great Britain duel will kick off at 7:30 p.m. at the Chaivetz Arena. Tickets for the event run from $8 to $55 and can be purchased at the Chaifetz Arena or at www.thechaifetzarena.com.
 

USA Boxing, as the national governing body for Olympic-style boxing, is the United States' member organization of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) and a member of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).
