Orci Resignation
by Enrique Orci / December 18, 2009
As per the USA Boxing mandate to rotate the personnel and chairs of the various task forces we are announcing a change in management of the Official's Task Force. Effective October 1, 2009 Enrique Orci is stepping down as the chairman and passing the honor to Angel Villarreal who has been Enrique's right hand man for the last three years.
It has been a great honor to serve as your Chairman of the Officials Task Force. The last three years as your National Chief of Officials have been one of my greatest personal experiences. The responsibilities of the National COO are quite demanding but at the same time very rewarding. The merging of the JO's, Women's and Men's National Championships into one huge event was a task that demanded lots of attention to details and lots of effort to make this event a success. The planning and facilitating of the Train The Trainer seminar was one of my favorite events to coordinate and I was thrilled that we had the opportunity to host such an event this year. It was great getting a chance to meet the next generation of R/J leaders for the various LBC's.
The most frequently asked question is why are you stepping down? Why not stick around for a few more years? Well I must provide you with a little background. I have been involved with the administration of the Officials at the National level for over 15 years. It all started with being the right hand man for Ray Silvas when he was the National Chief of Officials for six years, followed by being the right hand man for Spencer Carpenter when he was the National Chief of Officials for six years, followed by being the right hand man for Kevin Franklin when he was the National Chief of Officials for about a year and now being the National Chief of Officials for 3 years...it is just time to move on. I've had a great opportunity to influence the direction of the officials for such a long time that it is now time to turn it over to others to continue with the improvement of our officials nationwide.
I feel extremely confident in leaving you in the hands of Angel Villarreal who has been a super right hand man for me. He has lots of experience as a boxer (12 years), as an official (18 years) as well as 12 years as an LBC President. He brings to the table that needed understanding of managing the officials as well as the need of working with the LBC management team. He is a very knowledgeable official that earned the honor as an AIBA International R/J in 2002. He has been very involved with Jeanne DePriest in the implementation of the new AIBA computer scoring system and the revamping of the computer technicians group. Again I feel extremely confident on Angel's ability to lead the officials for the next several years.
I thank you all for the great honor and wish you all but the best.
Your in Boxing,
Enrique Orci
