Making History

by Julie Goldsticker / October 16, 2008

Hi, I'm Adam Lopez, I am the 112 pound representative for the USA for the upcoming U-19 youth world championships. I'm from San Antonio, Texas. My experience at the Olympic training center is great. It's been my second time to the center. The center is a great place of inspiration seeing all the pictures on the walls of great Olympic boxers from the past like Oscar De La Hoya, Ray Leonard, Howard Davis Jr., and Evander Holyfield. It makes you want to win that much more to know that you could be a part of history like them.

As far as the training is going, it's very new to me. In the morning we wake up, eat breakfast, and at 8:30 we have Strength and Conditioning workouts with our coach Patrick. I think that's the worst part about training because I get very sore, my thighs are hurting right now as I'm writing this blog. But I know it's necessary because we had an intense workout this morning and I was breathing very well for how high the altitude is so I know I'm getting in great shape. The gym workouts are very good too. I am learning boxing from some of the great teachers of boxing like Barry Hunter, Israel Acosta, Candy Lopez, Larry Nicholson, Bill Meartz, and Steve Blea.

I feel that this team is something special. Our team is very united and driven. Everyone here is here for one reason and one reason only - to win gold for the United States.
