Team USA arrives in Barbados

Team USA touched down in Barbados, this afternoon, to participate in the 2010 Women's World Championships. Competition begins on Thursday, September 9 with preliminary bouts and opening ceremonies.  

The 2010 World Championships is the largest ever held for women, with over 300 boxers from over 80 countries registered to compete, and is being held just under two years from women's debut in the 2012 Olympic Games.

The US team is comprised of the 2010 US Champions, crowned recently in Colorado Springs, Colorado

106 lbs: Jessica Ponce, Napa, Calif.
112 lbs: Marlen Esparza, Houston, Texas
119 lbs: Lauren Fisher, Indiana, Pa.
125 lbs: Jody Ann Weller, Pomona, N.Y.
132 lbs: Queen Underwood, Seattle, Wash.
141 lbs: Cashmere Jackson, Cleveland, Ohio
152 lbs: Andrecia Wasson, Centerline, Mich.
165 lbs: Tiffanie Hearn, Louisville, Ky.
178 lbs: Tyler Lord-Wilder, Lansing, Mich.
178+ lbs: Denise Rico, Los Angeles, Calif.

The team trained together in Hollywood, Florida, to prep for the World Championships.  Coaches Basheer Abdullah, Fort Carson, Colorado, Bonnie Canino, Hollywood, Florida, and Bruce Kawano, Pearl City, Hawaii are joined by team physician Dr. Keith Nord, Memphis, Tennessee, and team manager Joe Zanders, Los Angeles, California, to lead the team in Bridgetown, Barbados.
